Acrylic paint on tin

I was wondering if anyone has had any success using acrylic paint to cover tin surfaces? If so was there any pre prep of the tin involved?

hmm, I would probably do a spray paint base coat first to prime the surface. Then paint with your acrylics and seal it with a spray paint clear coat.

Those are good tips. But i would also add roughing up the surface first with some sand paper just to make sure your paint doesnt easily peel off.

Son does Warhammer either paints them with Chaos black or more often than not paints straight on the metal models

@ Pammerz - YES! Sandpaper would be great for that and the paint would stick easier.

I have on metal, glass and leatherette, If you dont want to roughen the surface which works well you can paint the design on and the cover it with a acrylic gloss which on a custom bag I painted really worked so i cant see why it wouldnt work on metal.

you really need to check the label on your acrylic paint ( one i picked up thinking it would be ok wasn;t , but i've got others in the brand that are fine )
i have never sanded or put on a base coat to my tins that i've done just painted straight on to the tin and used a gloss that is made for use on that project
