what a pretty bloom!
This is a little project I learned on my cruise to Alaska.
Its really simple and cute, and it looks even better when you have bundles of different colors!

Also, don't be limited to just silk ribbon! Any type of craft ribbon will work. I've made ones with pumpkin ribbon for All Hallow's and pink lacy ones for Cancer Awareness!

  • Step 1

First cut off a section of ribbon from the roll. Its up to you how much you want (the more ribbon, the biger the bloom).
I say a minimum of about 1 foot, 6 inches, so you have something to work with.

    Step 2

Take one end of your ribbon and form an pside down "L" shape. You should have an apprx. 2 inch tail where the ribbon folds, and a very long tail extending outward.
This will be your working tail.

    Step 3

Turn the "L" shape a quarter turn to the left, so the working tail is projected upwards.
Fold the working tail down so you have a triangle shape paraallel to the "L."

    Step 4

Turn it another quarter turn, fold the working tail down, make a triangle next to the previous one.

    Step 5

You are going to keep making these triangle so they begin to layer on top of one another.

    Step 6

    IMPORTANT:
As you are continually making these triangles, make sure the square hole in the ceter is kept OPEN. This is what will bring your flower into being later on!

    Step 7

When you have layered as many triangles as you can/wish, you're going to take the working tail and using one finger (your othe rhand should hold the folds down so it doesn't fall apart!), twist the tail around so it is like a swirled rope.

    Step 8

Take the now twisted tail and stick it through the hold in the center. Gently pull the tail until the topmost triangle begins to follow it.

KEEP YOUR HOLD OF THE SHORT TAIL FROM THE BEGINNING! Don't let it unravel at the bottom!

  • Step 9

Now, using your thumb and pointer finger, begin to twist the working tail counterclockwise. The top-most folds of the ribbon should begin to swirl with the twisting.

Keep a firm hold not to let them fall tnrough!

(There is no picture to illustarte this, as I only have two hands XP)

  • Step 10

When all the folds have been twisted into shape (it should look like a flower now!!!!), take the working tail and the short bottom tail and tie a knot at the base of the flower, double it for security.

    And VOILA!
    A pretty little flower!

Make it a brooch, hair decoration, home decor, or make a whole lot and bundle them up as a bouquet!
