When did you first start knitting / crocheting and where did you learn?
I started very early as a child - probably around 6-7? My mom and my grandmothers taught me. I first learnt knitting, but found it quite difficult: stitches were slipping off my needles, and I did not know how to pick up the ladders. Then my granny taught me crochet, and it was my favourite until my early 20s. I then re-discovered knitting and now enjoy both.
Can you remember the first thing you made?
My very first item was a rectangular knitting wallet knitted in basketweave stitch. The first item I sort of designed was a teapot cozy I made at the age of 14 - you can find a blog post about it here: http://silkandwool.eu/2014/08/03/restoring-one-of-my-first-crochet-improvisations/
Who are your favourite pattern designers and celebrity knitters & crocheters?
There are so many designers now that it's difficult to pick a favourite. I like Kim Hargreaves for knitted garments, and Doris Chan for crochet, as their style is close to what I like to wear.
I think it's great that so many stars are knitting - it is helping to create a new, modern image to knitting and knitters.
What are your favourite things to stitch and do you have a favorite item you've made?
One of the reasons I knit and crochet is to relax and help me overcome life's challenges. I have found that different projects suit me better in different times. I think I enjoy making toys the least, but keep doing that for the joy of seeing my kids playing with them.
The lasted favourite I made was the Owl Teapot Cozy that will be featured this week. I also really like my Bloomsbury top (pattern by Tammy Hildebrand)
What music/podcasts/TV shows do you love to stitch along to?
I (almost) always knit or crochet when watching TV. For more interesting shows (or the ones with subtitles) I choose something easy to knit (stockinette or garter stitch). If the show does not require much attentions, I crochet or knit something more complex.
Do you do any other crafts and what are your hobbies?
I also know how to tat and do macrame, although I haven't touched those in a while.
I love movies and books, too.
