Tell us a bit about your home and what you love about it the most?
My home is a typical post-war weatherboard home in suburban Australia. I like it because it's old enough to have a few character flourishes (nine-foot ceilings, fireplaces, varnished hardwood trims) but it's enough of a blank slate that I don't have to be tied to a particular era or style in decor. I like its modesty.
What was the first DIY project you did to your home or first thing you made for it?
My first ever DIY project was refinishing an old desk for my study. I did a sloppy job of it, to be honest, but it got me started on doing similar projects. I still use that desk, too.
Do you have any tips for staying tidy & organised?
I wish I were an organised person. I imagine it'd be nice. But making sure that everything has a certain place to go (and trying to buy less stuff in general) helps cut down on the clutter.
If you could tour any celebrities home, who would it be?
It's more "celebrity architect," but -- I'm from Phoenix and I've never been to Taliesin West, Frank Lloyd Wright’s winter home and school in the Arizona desert. Next time I'm back I'll have to check it out.
If you had three wishes, what changes would you make to your home?
Better energy efficiency. More skylights. More cats.
Do you do any other crafts and what are your hobbies?
I love my garden! I'm turning into a dork about plants, especially Australian native plants and cool-looking succulents, and I get a thrill out of growing things that we can eat.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Thank you for having me on Cut Out + Keep!
