When did you first start knitting / crocheting and where did you learn?
About 7 years ago, my oldest son was 6 months old and I was feeling pretty down and unproductive, so I asked my mom to teach me to crochet. She only knows how to crochet granny squares, so after I mastered that (I made a blanket for my cat), I started browsing websites and learned all the basic stitches and how to read patterns. A year later, I picked up knitting. I credit the internet for teaching me to knit.
Can you remember the first thing you made?
A giant granny square that I turned into a blanket for my cat.
Who are your favourite pattern designers and celebrity knitters & crocheters?
Elizabeth Zimmermann is a constant source of inspiration for me in terms of designing and general knitting. I love the classic patterns in her books and how they are mainly blue prints for your to adjust and make your own. Her words give me the confidence to stitch how I want. I'm not afraid to undo hours of work when things don't work out.
What are your favourite things to stitch and do you have a favorite item you've made?
Doily blankets. Doilies get a bad rep, but I love when they're crocheted in brightly colored worsted weight yarn.
What music/podcasts/TV shows do you love to stitch along to?
I like to marathon new-to-me TV shows when I stitch. I developed a series of patterns, last year, while I watched the entire Buffy the Vampire Slayer series. They hold a special place in my heart.
Do you do any other crafts and what are your hobbies?
I am a big fan of DIY-anything. I like to sew, cross-stitch, embroider, etc. I've joked that I'm really a grandma trapped in a 20-something year old body.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Don't be afraid to take chances with your work!
