My daughter has been wanting some clothes for her zhu zhu pets. I didn't even know such a thing existed, but I found some examples and made up my own pattern. This is a great project for the scrap bag. I actually made these in sets of 3 so that I could give one to my daughter and 1 outfit to each of my niece's. I made about 3 dozen outfits in a couple of hours. Plus, I used up lots of scraps. I do save tiny pieces of ribbon like a crazy person for little projects like this and I was able to use up a bunch of those little scraps. I would rate this project as practically free if you sew. I know these little outfits seem crazy, but they have been on my daughter's want list for several months. A few of these outfits plus the little pet would make a great inexpensive birthday or Christmas Gift.

To make the basic outfit, you want a have a top and a skirt. The final size will be 3"x5", so you want to cut your pieces a little larger to account for the seam allowance. I used some jean scraps for the skirt and white felt for the shirt. I think that the pieces here were about 2 1/2"x5 1/2" for the top and 3"x5 1/2" for the skirt. This allowed for a 3/8" seam allowance.
Lay your shirt Right sides together with the skirt fabric and sew the 2 pieces together. I also zigzag the edge to prevent fraying.
Hem your top and bottom edges. For this outfit I used a couple of iron on appliques to embellish it. Do not iron directly onto the felt. That really goes without saying, but it will melt onto your iron.
Once you have the top and bottom hemmed, you need the turn and hem the side seams. If you are using fleece, you can skip hemming altogether.
Once the sides are hemmed, you can add your elastic. I used a 2" piece of 1/4" elastic. Stitch it down at the top hem of the shirt with a zigzag.
You can also stitch down ribbon for the top, instead of using fabric. I just top stitched it straight onto the jean skirt.
To make jeans, I made the basic skirt pattern and then I cut a slit up the middle of the skirt. I folded the slit over and hemmed it, to make pant legs.
To make a super hero cape, I cut a cape shape from felt that was about 3" wide at the neck and then flared out. I used bias tape to accent the edges. Then, I used a longer strip of elastic, 3 1/2". For the Christmas dress, I zigzagged down a red feather boa to the hem of the skirt.
For the party dresses, I actually just stitched 2 pieces of lace together. I used a ruffled lace to create a sort of tutu effect for the skirt and a plain ribbon for the top.
I also made a little fleece coat. I hemmed the fleece to the outside at the neck to make a collar. You could probably add little buttons, but these are for a 3-year-old and I don't want anything that she can choke on.
