Easy tutorial to make little Yo-Yo fabric flowers your grandma made long before the term Boho was even coined! These are very cool embellishments for a variety of projects!

Instructions

  1. Small 115143 2f2016 10 13 164048 yo%2byo%2b1

Create a template. Using something round (such as a saucer), trace a circle onto a piece of paper. (You can also use a compass.)

  2. Small 115143 2f2016 10 13 164057 yo%2byo%2b2

Cut out the template. (An 8" diameter template produces a 4" finished flower.)

  3. Small 115143 2f2016 10 13 164105 yo%2byo%2b3

Cut a fabric circle. Trace around the template on the backside of your fabric; then cut it out.

  4. Small 115143 2f2016 10 13 164417 yo%2byo%2b4

Baste the edges. Using a thread and needle, turn the outside edge of the fabric circle under and baste.

  5. Small 115143 2f2016 10 13 164426 yoyo%2b5

Gather the stitches. Once you have basted around the entire circumference, gently pull your thread, pulling the stitches together. Adjust the fabric flower as needed to create an even little flower.

  6. Small 115143 2f2016 10 13 164559 yo%2byo%2bfinished

Knot your thread. Once the flower is gathered tightly, knot your thread to secure it. You can then add a vintage button to the center for a finishing effect. And that’s it! A lovely little yo-yo. Granny would be proud.
