This project was inspired by cute octopuses I saw on Pinterest. Mine is made differently though for 2 reasons. 1 I didn't have a styrophome ball and 2 I made this for my daughter so I wanted something softer. http://08pinkpost.storenvy.com/

First you will need something like a box, book or picture frame to wrap your yarn around till you think you have enough yarn to cover the stuffing which is what makes the body/head.
cut a piece of fabric, try to make it the same color as your yarn. grab some poly fill then tie the ends with yarn and shape into a ball. size depends on your preference but make sure you have enough yarn to cover the ball
cover the ball with yarn. this is what took the longest for me. white and purple don't mix well because if you don't have enough yarn you will see the white gaps. learn from my mistakes! This is why I added glue to the project, I had to rearrange the yarn to cover the white ball. glue, cover, hold, glue, cover, hold
when you're done, tie a piece of yarn to finish the basic octopus shape
separate all the excess yarn in half. working with one of the bundles, separate in half then in half again. total of 4 small bundles o the working side. braid each bundle and tie with yarn, trim any extra yarn. repeat on the other side. try to keep all legs about the same length.
add anything extra you want
finished project!
I wish i had little bells or crinkle paper to add the head, this would make a great little gift too.
