Description

This classic (and classy) starburst mirror is made from cheap ol' wood shims from the hardware store. Some wood glue and some patience and you'll be loving your new sunburst mirror!

Instructions

  1. Small 103697 2f2014 08 01 203608 dsc 1412

Glue your wood shims together with any old wood glue. I used this ruler to make sure my 'rays' were all the same distance from each other.

  2. Small 103697 2f2014 08 01 203612 dsc 1425

Repeat and repeat and repeat until you have enough to complete a full circle.

  3. Small 103697 2f2014 08 01 203615 dsc 1435

Once you have enough to fit together into a fill circle, arrange them on a remeasured template to assure yourself that they are perfectly circular. Glue the rays together. It's a good idea to place something heavy on your sunburst so that it is laying perfectly flat as well.

I found this round mirror at a local home store, but most craft stores also carry circular mirror. Glue this on top of your sunburst being careful to make the perfect center.

I place newspaper over the mirror and gave it a few light coats of gold metallic spray paint, but any color you'd like will work at this point.

  6. Small 103697 2f2014 08 01 203734 dsc 0387 678x10241

To hang, I glued a thin sheet of plywood to the back and screwed in some D-rings for a picture wire. It's moderately heavy so hang accordingly.
