But actually, the pebbles aren’t pebbles at all – they’re handmade papier mâché beads, so the necklace is light as a feather! The Wispy Pebbles Necklace will really put your crimping technique to work!
But actually, the pebbles aren’t pebbles at all – they’re handmade papier mâché beads, so the necklace is light as a feather! The Wispy Pebbles Necklace will really put your crimping technique to work!
Cut two of each of the following lengths from the beading wire: 14cm, 13cm, 12cm, 11cm, 10cm, 9cm, 8cm and 7cm (5 ½”,5 1/8”,4 ¾”, 4 3/8”, 3 15/16”, 3 ½”, 3 3/16” and 2 ¾”).
Working on one length at a time, line up both ends and string on a crimp tube.
Slide the crimp tube up towards the top forming a small loop. Make sure the two wires are sitting side by side inside the tube. Place the crimp in the second hole of the crimping pliers and squeeze to form two channels in the crimp tube.
Position the crimp in the top hole of the crimping pliers and squeeze firmly to fold the two channels into the centre.
String a spacer bead and a crimp tube onto one of the wires.
Slide the crimp tube to the end of the wire and crimp it.
Repeat on the other wire. Prepare all the wires in the same way.
Lay the papier mache beads out on the bead board. Add a spacer bead between each one and also one at either end.
Cut a 30cm (12”) length of beading wire. String a crimp tube and wire guardian onto the wire and slide them to the end, leaving a 2.5cm (1”) tail. Crimp and then tug the long end to make sure it is secure. String a spacer bead, a papier mache bead and one of the prepared 7cm (2 ¾”) wires. Continue stringing in this pattern, replacing the 7cm wire with the next longest wire until you reach the centre bead. For the second side of the necklace, string the prepared wires after the spacer beads. Add the last spacer bead.
String a crimp tube and wire guardian. Insert the wire back through the crimp tube and the last two papier mache beads.
Slide the crimp tube up to the last bead and pull the wire end to ease the beading wire snugly into the wire guardian. This will remove the slack from the necklace.
Crimp the crimp tube. Tug the necklace to make sure it is secure.
Trim the excess wire close to the bead.
Cut the chain in half and attach one piece to each side of the necklace with a jump ring. Attach the clasp to the other end of each chain.
