Description

But actually, the pebbles aren’t pebbles at all – they’re handmade papier mâché beads, so the necklace is light as a feather! The Wispy Pebbles Necklace will really put your crimping technique to work!

Instructions

  1. Small 114030 2f2016 04 24 070208 1 cut beading wire

    Cut two of each of the following lengths from the beading wire: 14cm, 13cm, 12cm, 11cm, 10cm, 9cm, 8cm and 7cm (5 ½”,5 1/8”,4 ¾”, 4 3/8”, 3 15/16”, 3 ½”, 3 3/16” and 2 ¾”).

  2. Small 114030 2f2016 04 24 070211 2 string crimp

Working on one length at a time, line up both ends and string on a crimp tube.

  3. Small 114030 2f2016 04 24 070214 3 create channels

Slide the crimp tube up towards the top forming a small loop. Make sure the two wires are sitting side by side inside the tube. Place the crimp in the second hole of the crimping pliers and squeeze to form two channels in the crimp tube.

  4. Small 114030 2f2016 04 24 070342 4 crimp tube

Position the crimp in the top hole of the crimping pliers and squeeze firmly to fold the two channels into the centre.

  5. Small 114030 2f2016 04 24 070345 5 string spacer

String a spacer bead and a crimp tube onto one of the wires.

  6. Small 114030 2f2016 04 24 070349 6 crimp end

Slide the crimp tube to the end of the wire and crimp it.

  7. Small 114030 2f2016 04 24 070351 7 prepared loop

Repeat on the other wire. Prepare all the wires in the same way.

  8. Small 114030 2f2016 04 24 070355 8 layout beads

Lay the papier mache beads out on the bead board. Add a spacer bead between each one and also one at either end.

  9. Small 114030 2f2016 04 24 070357 9 stringing pattern

Cut a 30cm (12”) length of beading wire. String a crimp tube and wire guardian onto the wire and slide them to the end, leaving a 2.5cm (1”) tail. Crimp and then tug the long end to make sure it is secure. String a spacer bead, a papier mache bead and one of the prepared 7cm (2 ¾”) wires. Continue stringing in this pattern, replacing the 7cm wire with the next longest wire until you reach the centre bead. For the second side of the necklace, string the prepared wires after the spacer beads. Add the last spacer bead.

  10. Small 114030 2f2016 04 24 070400 10 create end loop

String a crimp tube and wire guardian. Insert the wire back through the crimp tube and the last two papier mache beads.

  11. Small 114030 2f2016 04 24 070411 11 pull up crimp

Slide the crimp tube up to the last bead and pull the wire end to ease the beading wire snugly into the wire guardian. This will remove the slack from the necklace.

  12. Small 114030 2f2016 04 24 070413 12 crimp

Crimp the crimp tube. Tug the necklace to make sure it is secure.

  13. Small 114030 2f2016 04 24 070415 13 trim excess

Trim the excess wire close to the bead.

  14. Small 114030 2f2016 04 24 070418 14 attach clasp

Cut the chain in half and attach one piece to each side of the necklace with a jump ring. Attach the clasp to the other end of each chain.
