Description

I've been seeing necklaces with vials containing dandelion seeds so I wanted to try my hand at making my own. I got a vial at a thrift shop and promptly got to work.

Instructions

  1. Small vial 1

Gather your materials. I chose to work with the wire so that I don't end up with too much or too little wire, but it's up to you. You'd probably need about 4-5" of wire though(I'm estimating.).

  2. Small vial 2

First, make a wire scroll/ spiral. If you don't know how to, here's a link: http://www.artbeads.com/wire-spiral.html

  3. Small vial 3

Wrap the wire around the neck of the vial twice like in the picture. The part of the wire that's red in the picture should be about 1.25".

  4. Small vial 4

Here's a picture of how you should be wrapping the wire around the vial. Keep the wire connected to the spiral under the other end of the wire (In other words, keep the red wire under the blue one in the picture.).

  5. Small vial 5

Bend the wire with the spiral up like so.

  6. Small vial 6

Bend the red wire down like so. Make sure the bend is somewhat curved; you could bend the wire around a pencil or something cylindrical.

  7. Small vial 7

Curve the red wire even more to the right so that it resembles this picture.

  8. Small vial 8

Bend the scroll part a bit to the left as in the picture. Make sure there's a slightly sharp bend at the yellow dot in the picture.

  9. Small vial 9

Now bend the blue wire to the left so that it's over the yellow dot part of the red wire (as seen in step 8's picture).

  10. Small vial 10

Wrap the blue wire around the red wire's loop (Bring the blue wire around the loop in a clockwise wrap as seen from a bird's eye view -- hope that makes sense!).

  11. Small vial 11

Bend the blue wire to the right, bringing the wire behind the vial's neck (Look at the picture; the blue dots make up the wire that goes behind the neck.).

  12. Small vial 12

Curve the blue wire back to the left and around the front of the vial's neck. (Again, the blue dots in the picture make up the part of the blue wire that's curved behind the neck.).

  13. Small vial 13

Bring the blue wire under the red wire attached to the spiral.

  14. Small vial 14

Cut the wire if you haven't already. The part of the wire that's blue in the picture should be around 1.25".

  15. Small vial 15

Make a spiral using the blue wire.

  16. Small vial 16

Roll both spirals as close as you want.

  17. Small vial 17

Optional: turn the loop (circled in red) to the side. Do this step if you are directly stringing the vial to a necklace; you could just skip this step and add a jump ring instead.

  18. Small vial pic 1

String ribbon or a chain through the loop, and you've got yourself a new necklace! What will you put in your vial?
