About

A second project made from the Jacquard Lumiere paints (I just couldn't get enough of them!). I've been admiring the sparkly feathers that are on trend recently and decided I needed to play around with some of my own.

You Will Need (6 things)

  • Feathers
  • Jacquard Lumiere Paint
  • Modeling Clay
  • Embellishments
  • Hot Glue Gun and glue
  • Alligator Style Hair Clip

Steps (18 steps, 75 minutes)

  1. 1

Gather your supplies. I collected a lot of embellishments at first so I could experiment with different layouts pressed into the clay.

  2. 2

Form a ball from your modelling clay.

  3. 3

Smoosh the ball into a thick disk.

  4. 4

Decide if the disk is really the shape you want.

  5. 5

Press your alligator clip into the back of your dough. You can remove it now and glue it in later, or do as I did and leave it in as the dough cures.

  6. 6

At this point I decided the disk wasn't actually for me and opted for a modified oval rock shape to better compliment the scorpions I was pressing into the clay.

  7. 7

Paint your feathers with the paint in any design you want. I like the lumiere paint because it kept to the feathers texture really well. It helps to have your fingers underneath to support the edges.

  8. 8

    I alternated off coloured stripes.

  9. 9

and added some hi-lite red on the skinny side so they would have a little flash of red in the light.

  10. 10

    Paint in your scorpions.

  11. 11

    one little, two little...

  12. 12

    four little scorpions!

At this point you can bake your clay if its oven-bake clay. Let it air-dry if its air dry. Or take the risky route I did and try to oven bake your air dry clay (I succeeded, I can't guarantee that you will)

  13. 13

after everything is dried and hardened, lay out your materials again for gluing. Decide how you want to glue your feathers on as the gun heats up.

  14. 14

lay em out, and glue em down. If you didn't leave your alligator clip in step 5, now is the time to glue it.

  15. 15

Close up of my always-hairy gluing.

  16. 16

Put it on and then ask the closest person to take lots of pictures of you in your new creation.

  17. 17

    Close up.
