How to draft and sew a simple whale plushie pattern. Come out with a cute plushie in a matter of hours. Best way to use up fabric scraps. Sorry it's a rough tutorial for now. Feel free to ask questions here. Will be cleaning up the pattern and sharing on my blog soon. Please look out for it :) http://weartheduckytie.wordpress.com

Check out the picture of the pattern pieces. Draw the side of the whale as your first pattern piece, making sure to include half of the tail. Mark where you want the eyes to be and cut a hole there so you can dot through it to the fabric. Also mark where you want the fins to go (right behind the eyes).
Measure along the curve as shown. This will be the length of your next piece - the top.
Start drawing the top piece. You got the length in step 2. Determine the width you want and start tapering it at mid-length. Draw two fins.
At this point to test the pattern/shape and to draw the last bottom piece, I traced the side and top pattern pieces on paper and assembled a model with tape then placed it on top of pattern paper and traced around (minus the fins) to create the bottom pattern piece. Now you're ready to transfer to fabric!
Cut out the pattern pieces and first attach the two side pieces to the top piece right sides together. Flip inside out to see the shell of the whale. Sew the button eyes on the marks you made.
Sew the fins together then attach to the side of the shell while the shell is right side out. It will look like this.
Flip the shell inside out. Line up the bottom piece wrong side out to the bottom of the shell and pin then sew, leaving a gap so you can flip it inside out and blind stitch it closed.
Flip the shell right side out and stuff with polyester filling. Blind stitch the gap shut and love your new little friend :)
