This is a traditional West Country dish which was made for fruit pickers returning from the orchards after a hard days work. This is a warming and nourishing dish; perfect for warming you up on a crisp autumn night.
Assemble the ingredients and pre-heat oven to 200 degrees
Fry off the onion and put into casserole dish
Fry off the pork and add to dish
Add sage, tomato puree and stock cube and seasoning
De-glaze pan with most of the cider and add to other ingredients. Put into oven
Meanwhile, peel, core and slice up the apple
After 1 hour, add the apple and sliced mushrooms to the part-cooked casserole
Mix the cornflour with the remaining cider and mix in
Return to the oven for another 30 minutes until the mushrooms are cooked
Serve with fresh crusty buttered bread
