Welcome To Night Vale Art Canvas

All hail the Glow Cloud

Recently I did a WTNV craft swap, and this is one of the things I made for my partner. I used a small canvas, scrapbooking paper, modpodge, wooden cut outs, E6000, a plastic cactus, an empty pocket watch (found in the jewellery section of my local craft store), washi tape, string, a small piece of leather, number stickers, letter "thickers" (yes, that's actually what they're called!), a felt tip pen, and glow in the dark paint - to make the Glow Cloud really glow! The cost of this project is really up to you - it cost me nothing to make since I have a very large stash, but if you were buying everything new it could end up costing quite a bit more. Hunt around your house and see what you have; it doesn't necessarily have to be a craft supply to end up in a mixed media project ~____^

Description

Instructions

  1. Small 109208 2f2015 06 07 011458 img 20150520 134840

Cut scrapbooking paper to size and use mod podge to attach to all sides of the canvas. For the house pattern paper, I used a ruler to rip it and create a more interesting edge than a straight cut would have been.

  2. Small 109208 2f2015 06 07 011533 img 20150520 135722

Stick down the letters and use your felt tip pen to write out a quote.

  3. Small 109208 2f2015 06 07 011609 img 20150520 135741

Cut off the base of the plastic cactus and glue it on with E6000.

  4. Small 109208 2f2015 06 07 011650 img 20150520 135650

Paint a wooden cloud cut out with glow in the dark paint and glue it down. Add the WTNV eye to one of your three music notes and glue them down also.

  5. Small 109208 2f2015 06 07 011800 img 20150520 135413

Add woodland themed washi tape to one side, stick down three wooden rabbit cut outs, and use your felt tip pen to add a quote and some eyes.

  6. Small 109208 2f2015 06 07 011923 img 20150520 134948

Add some glasses pattern washi tape down the side of the canvas, overlapping to the bottom. This tape reminds me of a certain scientist. Use a felt tip pen to write a quote on some paper and glue it to the glass of the empty pocket watch. Thread string through the handle of the pocket watch and use E6000 glue and a small scrap of leather to attach it to the canvas.

  7. Small 109208 2f2015 06 07 012056 img 20150520 135249

Add some washi tape over the scrapbooking paper, to create a more interesting layout. Lay the string across the top of the canvas, and glue three wooden wine glass cut outs on top of it. Add a wooden speach bubble cut out and use your felt tip pen to add a quote across the cut outs.

  8. Small 109208 2f2015 06 07 012248 img 20150520 135343

Stick down some more washi tape and add a wooden cat cut out to the base of the canvas.

  9. Small 109208 2f2015 06 07 012315 img 20150520 135626

Put number stickers down the side of the canvas, overlapping to the top and the bottom.

  10. Small 109208 2f2015 06 07 012355 img 20150520 135508

Add a message to the back of the canvas to remind everyone to continue to work productively!
