You Will Need (5 things)

  • Red Felt
  • Thread (white and red)
  • Sewing Machine
  • Ribbon
  • Twine

Steps (10 steps, 120 minutes)

  1. 1

Take a large piece of felt and cut 6 thin strips (mine were about 7cms wide but you can use what ever size you want) and another 6 that are double the width

You may need more or less strips depending on how long your garland is to be, mine covered a 2 meter stretch of wall

  2. 2

Take 2 pieces the same size and place them back to back

Stitch them together down one side

  3. 3

Flip the piece you have just stitched and then stitch down the other side to give it that heart shape

  4. 4

You now have 1 long heart, cut the strip into lots of little strips

  5. 5

This will give your your hearts!

Repeat the process until you have sewn up all your pieces of felt

I made 1 pile of small hearts and 1 pile of large so that it makes it easier to string them up

  6. 6

Take your ribbon and sew a piece of twine or ribbon to the end of it so you can make a tie at the end for hanging it up

  7. 7

Take your white thread and knot it through your ribbon near the start of it, making sure your piece of thread is longer than the length you want your garland to hang

Then take the other end of your thread and one on the hearts and thread the needle through the middle of the top of your heart and down through the bottom

Push the heart up to near the top of your thread

  8. 8

Repeat the process until you have reached the length you desire and knot it off.

Then start another thread further along your piece of ribbon and start the fun all over again!

  9. 9

Obviously if you make one as big ans mine and then try to transport it or store it away, then it is easily going to get tangled unless you package it well.

I gently pushed all the hearts to the top of each thread and then wrapped the excess thread round the last heart

  10. 10

This way you can easily take it out the bag, hang it up and then one by one, slowly pull the hearts back down to form the heart shapes again
