I've been in love with Waldorf inspired toys and gnomes, and I ran across one of these and I thought "I can make that!" I don't remember where I seen it, but when I do I will post it so the original artist will get the credit. It's basically 2 washclothes and some no-pill fleece for the hat. This would make an easy (and cheap) gift for a new baby. I think I might make one with a red hat and a green hat too!

Supplies
Cut out a head shape, you can eyeball it I think mine was about 3" in from the sides and top. Sew all around and leave a 3" opening for turning.
Turn right sides out and stuff head, take a piece of white floss tie around neck and knot. Sew opening closed either by hand or sewing machine.
Pinch hands and tie white floss around and knot. (there is NO stuffing in hands and feet) Do the same for the feet.
Lay your piece of fleece around your little gnomes head and place a pin so you know where to start sewing. take it off the gnomes head. I layed a piece of thread on the fleece so you can see how you need to cut and sew your hat. (The thread is not really on the hat)
Cut hat, sew. You will notice that the bottom of the hat is at an angle,
I then cut the bottom level.
Turn hat right sides out and slip it on the gnomes head. If it's too loose take it off and sew it a little smaller. Put it on the gnomes head and sew it on with a whip stitch with regular sewing thread.
Sew on eyes with tan floss entering the needle from the back of the head just under the hat. I did 2 little stitches for each eye and tied it off at the back of the head also.
Apply blush with a q-tip for the cheeks. Or you could use non-toxic paint.
Tie a bow around his neck and put a couple of stitches in close to the knot to secure the bow so the baby can't get it untied and your all done!
I hope you have lots of fun making these and your little ones enjoy playing with them! Julie
