Voodoo Doll Keychain

A very simple, unique keychain.

About

My friend had a voodoo doll keychain and since it was falling apart she was going to buy a new one, but I promised I'd make one for her halloween gift. This was my first attempt at making one and I wanted it to be detailed.

I used some pins for the shape of the body and just wrapped string around the pins a few times and tied it in the middle, removed the pins and started wrapping around each limb until it took a shape I liked. Then I used thread to wrap around for some color.

You Will Need (3 things)

  • Pins
  • 2 Bead(s) for the eyes
  • String

Steps (14 steps, 240 minutes)

  1. 1

Take some pins and put them in a flat surface to create the shape of the body. I just quickly did and the arms for this one are a bit short.

  2. 2

Wrap your string around the pins about 3 - 4 times for the arms and legs, and just one loop for the head.

Tie the body tightly in the middle and pull the pins out.

  3. 3

As tightly as you can wrap around each limb with the string. Keep going until you have a shape you like.

  4. 4

    Now for the head.
Using the loop you left, wrap around it like a yarn ball.

  5. 5

Choose the side you want for the front, and add your eyes. Now is the best time to add the beads unless you want a bug eye look like my first one got.

  6. 6

Think about how you want to add the details. I leave the feet blank, but if you want to add color there, it would be best to do that first.

I like to start with the pants, just pick your color and start wrapping as tight as you can. Keep going until it looks good to you.

  7. 7

    Next, I do the skin.
Wrap the hands and carefully wrap the head. It's rather hard wrapping around the top of the head, but a little glue helps hold it if you need it.

  8. 8

Finally I do the shirt last. Just like everything else keep wrapping tightly until it looks good to you.

  9. 9

For nice hair, use a sewing needle and pull some thread through. Tie each strand at the middle. Having the thread longer than you want works best and then you can just trim the ends after.

  10. 10

Here is the hair after I got some strands done.

  11. 11

And here is the hair complete with the trimmed edge.

  12. 12

If you want some curly hair, take a few strands and rub some glue into them. Then just wrap it around a pin to dry. A pin is easiest since you can stab it into the head while waiting for the glue to dry. Then the pin pulls out easy.

  13. 13

Here is the curly hair all done.

Now it's finished, you can add and details you want, be creative!

I'm making a special one for myself at the moment, but the details are taking awhile.
