Vintage Burp Cloths

I’m sure Jackson will be more then happy to throw up on them!

About

A while back, when I first found out I was pregnant, I bought 36
Gerber cloth diapers from an online friend that was going out of
business. I had heard that while these are crappy for diapering
purposes, they work wonderfully as burp cloths and when she offered me
some for a great deal, I snatched them up!

Thought it would be fun to jazz them up a bit so I dyed them and
sewed some ridiculously cute vintage fabric to the centers. What do you
think? I’m sure Jackson will be more then happy to throw up on them!

Now I realize there are a million burp cloth tutorials out there.
Most of them either use a Serger or the zigzag stitch on a normal
machine. Since I don’t have a Serger (I wish!) and my zigzag stitch
always looks messy, I decided to try something a little different.

You Will Need (4 things)

  • Cheap Gerber cloth Diaper(s)
  • Vintage Fabric
  • Dying Materials
  • Sewing Machine

Steps (5 steps, 120 minutes)

  1. 1

Wash and dry your cloth diapers a couple of times to preshrink them. Cloth diapers always shrink so don’t skip this step! While you’re waiting, you can read the dye instructions and get all the supplies ready.

  2. 2

Following the directions provided on packaging, dye all of the cloth diapers.

  3. 3

Cut 19?x5? pieces from your vintage fabric. Fold edges under 1/4?
and iron in place. Pin to center of diaper, making sure that the top
edges hang equally off both sides.

  4. 4

Sew vintage piece down, as close to the edge as possible. Flip diaper over, fold top edge down and sew in place.

  5. 5

Tada! You’re ready to have your kid burp in style!
