If you are looking for healthier refried beans look no further! Forget the bacon fat *bacon grease* and enjoy your VEGAN beans. Yum Yum! This recipe is from scratch. Seems self-explanatory but one of my in-laws was AMAZED that I made my own refried beans. :) That made me smile. Now YOU TOO can be amazing like me. :)

First follow my other tutorial on cooking VEGAN Pinto beans. Yes, I am a bossy one.... OR...You can use beans from a can. They will not taste HALF as good though..consider yourself warned.
Ignore my ugly pan and pour some Olive oil or vegetable oil into a pan. Heat to med/low heat. Since I was doing a big batch of beans I put enough oil to cover the bottom of the pan.
Fill your pan with cold/warm cooked pinto beans. Make sure there is a decent amount of liquid. If you use a pasta spoon to get the beans you should be ok. Now the fun part..
Using a bean masher or potato masher MASH, MASH, MASH the beans. Sing a song about it if you want! Once your beans are sufficiently mashed, turn the heat to medium low. The beans will be watery at this point. note* you can use a fork to mash, it just takes a long time.
Occasionally stirring your beans, let them reach the desired consistency. Scrap the baked bits off the sides. This is the best part! Check your seasonings, add a dash of chili for some kick. Cilantro and a dash of lime work well together.
Now the easy part, make tacos! Or...you can make bean dip! I like to stir in some chili, cheese and a little cilantro and lime. Let the cheese melt and put into a big bowl with some yummy chips! Let me know what you guys think. If you try doing this upload a picture of your yummy creation!
