Description

Use your favorite watercolors and simple ingredients you have at home to create some awesome backgrounds for your cards, layouts and more that will be sure to stand out.

Instructions

  1. For the card, begin by cutting a piece of watercolor paper that will fit the size of your card base. This card is a 5" x 7" card and the watercolor paper has been cut to 4" x 6".

  2. Small 111283 2f2015 09 30 195702 img 5207%2b 282 29

    Paint completely over the paper.

  3. Small 111283 2f2015 09 30 195713 img 5216%2b 282 29

While the paint is still wet drop salt across the painted areas and allow to completely dry.

  4. Small 111283 2f2015 09 30 195733 img 5222%2b 282 29

Once dry, brush off the salt. Stamp your favorite image onto the piece.

Notice how the background has a mottled look and to the entire look of the piece.

  6. Small 111283 2f2015 09 30 195830 img 5212%2b 282 29

Use a die cut tag or a punched tag from the watercolor paper to make some fun treat bag ties, bookmarks or anything you enjoy. Begin by spreading water over the entire tag using a clean paintbrush.

  7. Small 111283 2f2015 09 30 195848 img 5214%2b 282 29

Next, watercolor over the paper. While the paint is still wet spritz some rubbing alcohol onto the tag. This can be a little tricky because if it's still too wet the paint will pull away from the alcohol and roll off. If it is too dry the affect won't be created. Just keep practicing until you get a look that you like.

Once the tag is dry stamp your image onto the tag.

This is what a black watercolored tag looks like stamped with white ink.

For another look, wet the tag with water and then add the paint.

  11. Small 111283 2f2015 09 30 200010 img 5237%2b 282 29

While the paint is still wet, spatter a paintbrush dipped into the rubbing alcohol over the tag.

  12. Small 111283 2f2015 09 30 200028 img 5241%2b 282 29

    Allow it to dry.

  13. Small 111283 2f2015 09 30 200041 img 5244%2b 282 29

Stamp your image onto the tag.

See how the spattered design appears as a second layer on the project?
