Transform your A-line skirt into a pair of culottes. All you need is extra material either from an old pair of trousers / jeans or from the store.
This is the before - my jean A-line skirt. I decided to make them into culottes as it would be easier for me to move in and I could ride my bicycle in them! The first thing to do would be to take my measurements. This skirt already fits me along the waist and hip.
Measurements needed: a) Crotch depth + 1 inch. b) Hip Mark where the measurements are on the skirt and draw line with fabric marker. Take centre of skirt and cut up to the hip-line that you have just drawn. Do this on the front and back panel.
Divide the hip measurement by 8 and then add on an extra inch. Take this measurement and measure out a block of fabric, the length of which is the length of your skirt from the hip line. Remember to include seam allowance. Cut out 4 of these - I used the legs of an old pair of jeans, but you can use any fabric. Pin these to the front and back panels along the centre line.
Once the panels are pinned, you can define and cut out the crotch area a-b-c for each panel using the diagram below.
Using the sewing machine, sew the legs of the back and front panels together. Then sew the crotch together. You are done!
