Instructions

  1. Small babycocoontutorial

First, find a sweater, wash in hot water, and tumble dry. This way you know it's not going to shrink! Cut the sleeves off.

  2. Small babycocoontutorial1

Cut the sleeves open on the inside seam.

  3. Small babycocoontutorial2

    ...

  4. Small cut out hood

Now you're going to cut out the hood.

  5. Small babycocoontutorial3

Ok, so this may sound wrong, but you're going to sew it together wrong sides facing. Just trust me here. Zig zag as close to the edge as you can.

  6. Small babycocoonsweatertute

Then turn it right sides facing and sew again, using a 1/2" seam allowance to make sure none of the first seam shows through. This is a french seam. It will keep your cocoon from unraveling.

  7. Small cocoonhoodtutorial

Repeat steps 5 and 6 with the hood pieces, stopping 5 inches from the bottom.

  8. Small sweatercocoontutorial

Pin the hood inside the cocoon with the wrong side of the hood facing the wrong side of the cocoon. Zig Zag.

  9. Small cocoontutorial

Fold over and sew again, forming a french seam.
