I love buying these instant cappaccinos from the grociery store. I've always wondered what I could do with them. Finally I have a solution! I've given them a make over! They look cute and now I can use the to keep my loose teas fresh. You could also use them to keep your craft desk organized, lol. I think next I'll make a whole set of them for small bits like buttons and left over ribbon or felt. I never want to throw the smallest bit of anything away! Thanks and Enjoy!

Description

I love buying these instant cappaccinos from the grociery store. I've always wondered what I could do with them. Finally I have a solution! I've given them a make over! They look cute and now I can use the to keep my loose teas fresh. You could also use them to keep your craft desk organized, lol. I think next I'll make a whole set of them for small bits like buttons and left over ribbon or felt. I never want to throw the smallest bit of anything away! Thanks and Enjoy!

Instructions

  1. Small 5464458535 d20cd074dd 1298314796

Gather your supplies. Make sure your container is clean and dried. Get an idea of what fabric and thread colors you will be using.

  2. Small 5465047994 178c269dd4 1298314807

With white craft paint cover the outside of the tin. It doesnt have to be perfect. It just needs to cover the image/writing enough that it doesn't show though your fabric. Set it a side to dry.

  3. Small 5464442979 c6ea5b540b 1298314842

Trace out your the area of fabric you'll need for your tin on a piece of paper. Double check the size by holding the paper pattern up to the tin. When you've got the pattern like you want it, pin it to your fabric and cut it out. You know what they say "Measure Twice, Cut Once!"

  4. Small 5465033068 a2116d9610 1298315436

Blanket stitch your fabric, leaving the two shorter ends unstitched. Also leave enough thread on each corner that you can tie them together in the next step! If you dont know how to blanket stitch, you could substitute that for a ribbon or rick rack. Just something to give it a finished edge.

  5. Small 5465026112 81f9e4345a 1298314899

Wrap your fabric around the tin and pin it in place. If you need a little help, feel free to tack it down in a few places with some glue. Next take the thread from the top left and right corners and tie them together, so it brings the fabric closed. Repeat with the bottom left and right threads. Stitch closed the rest of the seam.

Now it gets fun! You can decorate your tin anyway you want now. Go crazy and have fun! I found some cute puffy stickers, and I used tacky glue (in the clear gel) to glue them down. Then I stacked a few books on top of it to give it some pressure. And let it dry for a few hours, just to be sure.

You can cut out a piece of felt and glue it to the lid and decorate to tie the whole look together.

Here is a whole hot drink set I made. With the tin, a drink cozie and a to-go pouch for when you want to toss it in your purse for later! Thanks so much for checking out my tutorial! Any Q's? Feel free to ask away!
