Instructions

  1. This is my first post - so sorry if it's not that good! And I forgot to take pics at different stages!

  2. Firstly, make your tote bag. I like to use Calico because it's a good weight and absorbs the paint well, but you can use another fabric. Cut out two rectangles 45cm X 60cm. This is the main part of your bag. Then cut out two rectangles around 8cm X 60cm. These are the straps.

  3. Next, sew the front & back of your bag together. I did French Seams to keep it neater and because I think it looks nicer than overlocking edges.

  4. Now fold your straps in half, so they are roughly 4cm X 60cm. Carefully turn ALL the edges under each other so there are no raw edges and baste. Then stitch all round the folded edges.

  5. Next, either freehand your design or trace it onto your fabric in pencil. Now just colour it in!! :D

  6. At the top of the bag, you should still have a raw edge. Fold this under twice, about an inch each time and stitch all the way round. Now position your bag handles, aligning the ends with the turnover you have just done, so it looks neater. Pin the handles on, making sure they match, and simply stitch them on. TA DA!! You're done! And you have your very own Cullen Tote Bag! :D
