The roses used in this fragrant, refreshing toner are more astringing than witch hazel and compatible with any skin type. If possible, you should use organic roses in this recipe, as conventionally grown roses are often sprayed with chemicals, and you don’t want chemicals to be infused in your toner. This recipe was contributed by my first herb teacher, Toyia.

Put the rose petals in the jar until it’s nearly full (or take the jar with you when you gather the petals, and place them in it).
Add the vanilla bean to the jar, and then fill the jar with the witch hazel extract, making sure that all of the plant matter is submerged.
Close the jar and let the mixture infuse for 2 to 6 weeks away from direct sunlight. Shake the jar daily.
Strain your lovely toner and enjoy!
To use: After cleansing, apply the toner to your face with a cotton ball, or spritz it on the skin lightly. Follow with your favorite moisturizer. The toner will keep longer if it’s stored in a cool place, but it doesn’t need to be refrigerated.
