Description

I think some of you might remember the Totoro Stamp I made before. Today I found my materials ... the rubber gum plate, the carving tools ... so I thought it would be good to make another Totoro Stamp :3 Hope this tutorial gonna be useful for you.

Instructions

  1. Small p1040892

Here you can see the materials I used making the stamp. Instead of the baking paper it is also possible to use parchment paper ... but because I haven't had parchment paper at home I used the baking paper.

  2. Small p1040852

First you start drawing a sketch, anything you want. How the sketch look like, the printing will look at the end, because the carved stamp also gonna be mirror inverted, when you are using this technique.

  3. Small p1040857

When you are done with your sketch use some tape to fix the baking paper on it.

  4. Small p1040859

Now just copy the lines on the baking paper using a soft pencil.

  5. Small p1040861

When the sketch is done, put the backing paper (with the sketch on the lower side) on the rubber gum plate.

  6. Small p1040862

Use the back of your pencil and rub carefully over your sketch.

  7. Small p1040866

When you are done there will be a copy of the sketch on your rubber gum plate at the end.

  8. Small p1040869

When you have made the rubber gum plate smaller (in this way it is easier to carve) use the carving tool, which looks similar to a knife, and follow all the lines before carving. In this way it gonna be easier for you to carve.

  9. Small p1040873

Now use your caving tools carfully. Start with the outer parts and at the end with the inner parts ... work slowly and carefully, so your stamp will look good at the end.

  10. Small p1040875a

Last step gonna be testing and stamping :3
