I have saved for many years doll tea sets. It's hard to get the right ones. but i have four which i'm very fond of. One is a birthday gift from a boss of my mum, some parts are lost , i was sooo glad when she gave it to me;-D but it all stood in a book case and i thought many years i must make something special for them. When i have got a lot of old toys of my niece , i saw in between all the toys a fake plastic display case for selling ice cream. The look of it was perfect and i thought what a shame that this isn't a real closet toy. I saw that my niece had tried to cut out the doors her self as well. It gave me more inspiration and the longing of to make a real toy closet of it. It was a big job, and hard labour, but now it's finished i have forgotten all the time and frustration it costed me;D I don't really know how much time it was in real, some steps you can forget , i experianced and some are really quicker to make. Not everybody has such a closet but i want to share you the tute because it can help you all to improve your skills and try something similiar out. so please watch the tute and make profit of it. Be creative and have just much crafting fun. Okay i always like it to try out my photoshop skills at first i thought to set the closet in a dollhouse, but later on i love the idea to set it in a real design livingroom.LOL one picture is of the interior designer Meghan Mc Ewen and the other of Rigelt Klint. i have made alot of changes in one i have hang my own pictures.LOL I like this strange playing with pictures and toy objects;-D http://www.designsponge.com/2011/05/sneak-peek-rigetta-klint-of-slow-fashion-house.html http://www.designsponge.com/2011/05/sneak-peek-meghan-mcewen-of-designtripper.html the orignal pictures are made by Ditte Isager. i was forgotten to ask them for permission , but i like to give all the people their credit they desivered , so thank you all for sharing your picts on the web.;XD Thank very much you for stopping by;-D

search for a nice potentional toy closet thing.
What i forgot to do think of what you will put inside your closet, and take the measurments some of my tea sets were too large to storage in the closet.
Cut with a sharp knife the doors out of the plastic. it's hard labour , so please be gentle with your hands, i had forgotten to weare gloves , and later on i saw my hands where full with blisters-S
With an iron file sand the plastic doors and the door gates.
cut small strips of cotton and clue them with gel glue inside the closet , like the where hinges. Be sure that you make the inside roomier of the glued strips between the door and the insides. I forgot this and i had to replace them later on.
Do the same with the outside of the doors. For this side you don't have to make some space in between of the "hinges" on the doors and the front closet because the doors will be opening to the outside.;-D
search for a small board. this will be your shelf in the downpart of the closet. Take the inside measures and make the marks on the wood.
saw the shelf and sand it and try it out in the closet.
In front of the priming i have given the plastic closet a layer with white glue.
Prime the inside and outside. I have given the closet two layers of priming.
Because the inside of the downside of the closet had high rib shapes, and i thought that isn't smart for a closet that will be sooo tiny. so i have made of carton scraps a shelf for the inside. Warning: Before i made the shelf i knew that the backside of this part must be fall in the closet part itself. So the shelfs had to be adjust to that measuring. so ... on the pict it's looking if the underneat shelf isn't good, in real it was.!!!! Hope you understand this;-D
Paint the closet with nice colours you like. I have choosen for licht blue becaus this was for tiny doll tea sets, so i had to look just pretty and sweet.;-D So when you choose your own colour think of what you want to show in the display.
wrap the shelves in some nice paper and glue it down. try out if the shelves still fit in the closet.
Pick a scarp of hardboard or other kind of plate wood . Lay the closet down on it and draw with a pencil the outside. then you have almost the pattern what you must saw out.
Now make the measuring real , the plastic outside is always thicker so be smart and work carefully. it will help you with less modifying later on. Do both steps as well for the upside of the backside of the closet.
Saw both parts out of the wood. And try the pieces out if they are real fitting. I did the topside wrong and i have made a sort of still plate of scraps of balsa wood to made the topback side okay.
Sand the parts and gave them a layer of wall paint.
Make of carton the pattern of the underneat doors. I liked it to make a top layer on them so i made that pattern as well. Cut the big part out of carton 6 x. and do this 3 x with the panel.
Glue a nice piece of paper on three of the door pieces and the same on the smaller panels.
Glue with nice paper the inside of the backsides of the closet as well.
Glue the three big panels with the paper disgn on them in the inside of the doors.
Glue now the shelfes for the undercloset in the inside closet. This will be helpfull for to work on the outside of the doors.
Glue a fake bead or pearl cord on the outside of the panels. You can use masking tape for help to glue the cord easily down.!!!
Okay now you can glue the backside of the underpart .
Glue beads on the doors, like they were door knobs. then glue beside that the door panels on the doors.
glue fake rhinestone hearts on the small panels of the doors. (i had hearts only one to short, so i used an other colour in the middle.LOL)
Pick up a piece of wood or carton. and draw your window frame door for the upper part of the display case .
When you like it, and all is right of measurment and real straight at the edges. like mine drawing , you can start with the cutting of the baslsa wood.
glue the window frame together with woodglue and hold it together on your design on the wood or carton with clothpins.
Take carefully after 24 hours drying your frames away. Sand the edge smoothly and be sure it will fit in your closet.! Paint the frames in a pretty colour you like and let it dry.
I had plastic sheets scraps still around , but you can buy them in a office requirements store or use plastic wrappings. Lay the frames above the plastic sheet and draw all around it a line, and cut the window shapes out.
Glue the "glass" in the frames and use the help of clothpins.;-D
Glue the backside of the top behind the closet.
In between the drying time you can start with pimping the lampshades. i had found in the dollarstore some lace paper tape and thought that it would be nice to use this.
I discovered that the lace tape was lovely but ... it was still paper and not a real transformation. so i have glued small pieces of pearl cord aroound the shade and the paper. and i have made the paper stifner with a layer of mat mod podge. i have done the same with the lace on the shelfs in the closet display. On the highest part i have glued some carton pieces behind the lace to let it hang in place.
Glue the windows with strips of cotton hinges in the closet. Glue some pearl bead as door knob on them. and then play wit pearl cord and gems and pearls on the whole closet. When you like your design , glue it all down.
Don't forget the side parts of the closet
glue some cotton scraps on the side parts as well.
almost done !!! LOL glue like hooks with the your hot glue gun some paperclips on the backside on the top.
and on this glue cotton strips with wood glue layers on them to make it more strongly.
Hang your closet on a nice place on the walll, or set it on a nice place. pick up your treasures and set them in the closet display.
shut the doors and enjoy your work and your treasures;-D Okay i always like it to try out my photoshop skills at first i thought to set the closet in a dollhouse, but later on i love the idea to set it in a real design livingroom.LOL It was hard labour but , it's really to do when you are a allround crafter . So i thought it will help others to share my tute to do something else then always using paper and carton.LOL And of course you can always ask for help of a dad or hubby. I didn't asked anybody so... i'm really proud of myself.LOL thank you very much of reading this tute, wish you much crafting fun with the making of and be creative;-D If you don't understand some part please ask for help , i will try to help you all;-D
