Description

This is a how-to dye a scarf using RIT dye!

Instructions

  1. You can view the whole video tutorial here:

  2. Small 114044 2f2016 04 25 173505 1

Find a pot that you will only be using for dye. Since dye is never food safe, you won't want to cook in this again. Fill it with water and make sure your item fits snugly in the pot. I have 2.3 liters of water.

  3. Small 114044 2f2016 04 25 173508 2

Add salt. I added one cup, and heat your pot up so it's hot, but not boiling.

  4. Small 114044 2f2016 04 25 173511 3

Add your dye. I use one whole package of dark red (burgandy) RIT dye from walmart--I used the powder version. Make sure to wear gloves!

  5. Small 114044 2f2016 04 25 173519 4

Add your item! I added rubber bands all down my scarf to create an interesting pattern. Simmer for 14 minutes, then drain and squeeze and wash by itself to set dye. Done!
