This was one of the first amigurumi that I designed. Makes a great gift for your favorite tea/coffee drinker.

Description

I like to use a pastel color for my tea cups (so far, I've only made them in aqua and lavender), and an off white with a dark green stripe for my bistro mugs.

Instructions

  1. Finished dimensions- The tea cups measure 6 inches across and stand about 3 inches tall. Bistro mugs measure 6 inches across and stand 6 inches tall. Materials- I used small amounts of Red Heart Super Saver worsted weight yarn in a variety of colors with a US6/4mm circular knitting needle (interchangeable with DPNs). You will also need scissors, a darning/tapestry needle, polyester stuffing, and safety eyes. Abbreviations- STS - Stitches K - Knit P - Purl KFB - Knit front and back K2Tog - Knit 2 sts together

  2. Let's get started~ With main cup color, cast on 6 sts and join in a round.

  3. Increasing: Round 1: KFB (12) Round 2-14 (even): Knit around Round 3: KFB, Knit 1 around (18) Round 5: KFB, Knit 2 around (24) Round 7: KFB, Knit 3 around (30) Round 9: KFB, Knit 4 around (36) Round 11: KFB, Knit 5 around (42) Round 13: KFB, Knit 6 around (48)

  4. The middle: Round 15-20: Knit around (Knit for an extra 10 rounds for bistro mug.) Round 21: Change to Tea/Coffee color. Knit around.

  5. Decreasing: Round 22: K2Tog, Knit 4 around (40) Round 23-29: Knit around Round 24: K2Tog, Knit 3 around (32) Round 26: K2Tog, Knit 2 around (24) STOP! Stuffing time. Add safety eyes on round 13 about 8 sts apart. Round 28: K2Tog, Knit 1 around (16) Round 30: K2Tog around (8) Round 31: K2Tog around (4) Break yarn, thread darning needle, and thread through remaining sts. Weave in ends.

  6. Details: Handle- With cup color, pick up 3 sts on one side. Work these 3 sts as an icord for desired length. With another needle, pick up three stitches toward the bottom of the cup. Knit these stitches with their corresponding sts using k2tog. Knit 3 more rounds. Knit 2 tog. Knit one more round. Knit 2 tog. Break yarn leaving a 6 in tail. Thread darning needle and thread through remaining sts. Weave in ends. Teabag- Pick up three sts on the edge of the brown. With white, work as an i-cord until desired length. Next Round: KFB 3 times Next Round: Knit 1, KFB, Knit 2, KFB, Knit 1 Work these sts straight in either garter or stst for 6 rows. Bind off. Break yarn. If desired, embroider 'TEA' on the end of the bag. Thread darning needle and weave in all ends. Additional- Embroider pink blush under the eyes, and a little smile if desired.
