There are lots of ways of making tassels, here's a quick and simple tutorial to get you started. Once you've got the basic idea you can get all fancy and add beads, mix your yarns and all sorts of things. This is a good way of using up all those little oddments of yarn.
There are lots of ways of making tassels, here's a quick and simple tutorial to get you started. Once you've got the basic idea you can get all fancy and add beads, mix your yarns and all sorts of things. This is a good way of using up all those little oddments of yarn.
Start with a rectangle of cardboard. The size isn't too important but one side needs to be the length you want your tassel to be. This piece is about 10 cm x 7 cm.
Wrap your yarn around the cardboard.
Keep wrapping until your tassel has reached the desired thickness.
Take a piece of yarn under all of the strands and tie it tightly at one end of the cardboard. Use this piece of yarn to tie a hanging loop for your tassel.
At the opposite end of the tassel, cut through all the strands of yarn, leaving you with a bunch of strands tied in the middle.
Fold the bunch of strands where they are tied together and take another length of yarn and use it to tightly wrap the tassel, about 1 cm from the tied middle. Weave this end of yarn into the wrapping to secure it.
Give your tassel a trim to tidy it up then use it to adorn jewellery, presents, your keys, your cat, whatever you can attach it to!
