Description

An apron I decided to make my sister for Christmas. I've tried to make the steps as clear as possible, but if you need any clarification, then just ask. :)

Instructions

  1. Small 1

First use chalk and a ruler to draw your apron shape onto your fabric, remembering to leave a seam allowence. (I prefer to use regular chalk to tailors chalk, as I think it comes off much easier, but that's just my personal preference.)

  2. Small 2

Use fabric scissors to cut out your apron.

  3. Small 3

Pin the hems as you'd like them in your finished apron.

  4. Small 4

Iron these hems to make them appear sharper and become easier to sew.

  5. Small 5

    Sew these hems.

  6. Small 6

Trace the lettering for the pocket onto paper, at this point you can add clear tape to one side, to add stability to the stencil, but it's not essential. (I just googled the words 'Tardis sign' to get an image to trace).

  7. Small 7

Use a craft knife to cut out your letters.

  8. Small 8

Cut out your white fabric for the pocket, using fabric scissors.

  9. Small 9

Stick down your stencil using double-sided sticky tape, making sure to get as close to the letters as possible and add the inside of letters (such as the middle of the 'O').

  10. Small 10

Use a sponge to dab acrylic paint onto the stencil.

  11. Small 11

Before the paint has dried, peel off the stencil. (Waiting 'til after the paint's dried, leads to paper from the stencil getting stuck in the paint.)

  12. Small 12

After the paint has dried, iron the design to set the paint (make sure you put scrap fabric between your design and your iron, to stop the paint melting onto the iron).

  13. Small 13

Stitch the hem along the top of the pocket.

  14. Small 14

Pin the hems and then stitch the pocket onto the apron.

  15. Small 15

Trace the Police Box Sign onto paper as you did in step 6.

  16. Small 16

Cut out the lettering using a craft knife.

  17. Small 18

Cut out your black fabric rectangle, then stick down yopur stencil (as you did in step 9). Then use a sponge to dab on the acrylic paint, and iron once dry.

  18. Small 19

Pin the hems and then stitch the sign along the top of the apron.

  19. Small 20

To make the windows, cut out the rectangles of white fabric and use acrylic paint and a ruler to aint the squares on. Then iron to set the paint.

  20. Small 21

Then stich the windows onto the apron.

  21. Small 22

Draw and cut out the shapes for your straps, leaving seam allownces.

  22. Small 23

Fold in the seam allownces then fold the strips in half and pin the sides togther.

  23. Small 24

    Then iron your straps.

  24. Small 25

    Stich your straps together.

  25. Small 26

Next, stitch the straps onto the apron.

  26. Small 27

    And you're done. :)
