Cuff Using larger needles and MC, cast on 46 sts. divide sts between needles and join to begin working in the round, being careful not to twist. After the first few rounds have been worked, place safety pin or split ring marker in work to indicate beginning of round. Switching to smaller needles, work as follows: Set-up Round: Work 31 sts in 1×1 rib, k1, place marker, k15. Work 11 more rounds in pattern as set, working first 31 sts of round in 1×1 rib and last 15 sts in stockinette st. Work 8 rounds in pattern using CC. Work 12 more rounds in pattern using MC. Break yarn, leaving a tail approx. 40 in/101 cm long. using Elizabeth zimmermann’s sewn bind-off method, bind off first 31 sts of round (all sts to marker). Rejoin MC to remaining 15 sts with WS facing; this will now be the RS of the work, so that when flap is closed, RS will be facing.
Flap Work 6 rows in stockinette st using MC, then work 6 rows using CC. Repeat these 12 rows once more, then bind off.
Pocket body With RS facing, pick up and k16 sts along cast-on edge of stockinette st portion of cuff (these sts will be directly opposite flap). Work 25 rows in stockinette st beginning with a RS row, so that when pocket is folded up, the RS will be facing outward. Bind off all sts.
FINIShING Weave in ends on cuff and flap, but leave tails for pocket to use in sewing up after lining has been inserted. Block cuff. Lining Cut a rectangular piece of lining fabric that is 9.5 in/24 cm long and 3.5 in/9 cm wide. Turn all edges under 0.25 in/6 mm and press. With knitted pocket body opened out and RS of cuff facing, center fabric right side up over stockinette portion of cuff and inside of pocket body. use sewing thread to sew edges of lining to knitted fabric. Fold pocket body up and use sewing thread to sew sides of pocket in place along edges of lining, ensuring that lining meets along edges. use MC to sew edges of knitted fabric in place. Fold flap down and mark location of lower edge of front of pocket. Sew button in place just below this point. using CC, work a crochet chain approx. 1.75 in/4.5 cm long. Fold chain into a loop and sew ends securely to inside of flap to form a button loop.
