Table Runner To Scarf

Turn a pretty table runner into a warm pretty scarf

I spotted this really neat table runner at a thrift store (1 of our whole 2 in our area...LOL). I wasn't sure what I'd do with it but I liked the woven material and vintage looking dark floral print with a hint of purple and green to go with the red and gold. Well I decided it would make a perfect scarf for next winter if I folded over in half and sewed it. so that's exactly what I did. it had a gentle style fray on the outer edges and I liked that so I decided I wanted to keep that look and as you can see I made it happen...LOL

Description

I spotted this really neat table runner at a thrift store (1 of our whole 2 in our area...LOL). I wasn't sure what I'd do with it but I liked the woven material and vintage looking dark floral print with a hint of purple and green to go with the red and gold. Instructions

  1. Small dsc07846 1276464377

I folded the runner in half longways with the edge out as that's the way I wanted it to look. If you prefer, fold it in half so it is inside out to have a hidden seam and line it up with your needle, keep it even and sew it shut longways. I left the ends open on mine.

Sewing sewing, watching my outer edge...

  3. Small dsc07850 1276464600

I wanted the other side to match with a frayed outer edge too since it was a neat material and frayed real pretty. I carefully flattened out my sewn piece and lined up the closed edge and sewed a small distance from the edge so I had room to cut it and fray it to match the other side.

Now carefully cut that closed sewn edge open so you can fray it to match your first edge. Just gently pull all the loose strings away and rough it up a bit.

Yaaay nice new warm vintagey scarf waiting for next winter ;-)
