i got the idea from the book, Generation T, 108 Ways to Transform a T-shirt. i did not follow the directions they gave exactly cos what fun is that?? haha! i actually messed up the ruffle on the skirt too, but after it got sewn on and i realized it, it actually works with the design the shirt had to begin with and i really like it. i took strips of fabric from the shirt, sewed the short edges together, made it ruffled, and then sewed it all around the bottom of the skirt, over lapping to give it more of a layered look. the strips were tapered at the edges too, ad one side was kinda cut with hills for a more interesting look. how did i mess up? well, when i sewed the ruffle onto the skirt, i did it with the sewn edges facing outward, so you can see the contrasting red thread i used. but like i said, it actually works with the shirt's original distressed look. luckily i did use red thread to match the red in the shirt!
this was an old shirt of my husband's, so it's super soft. makes a great summer skirt, or like i'm wearing above, looks good layered over some black tights.
