cute way to refashion a sweater
Start with the sweater you want to make over. This is a beautiful cashmere sweater that has sadly suffered a few holes on the front so it was destined for a make-over.
Begin by laying out a sweater that fits you on top of your over-sized sweater and cut around it leaving room for seam allowances.
Cut out around the neckline leaving a good half inch for seam allowance.
Next even out your front pannel and use it as a template to cut out your sheer fabric. Make sure you add a couple of inches to the bottom for hemming. Repeat for lining if you are using a sheer fabric like I am.
Pin your two front pieces around the neckline and shoulder seams. This is honestly the trickiest part, but once you've got past this it's really simple from here on out.
Sew around the neck opening and shoulder seams. Finish off by either serging, or zig zag stitching the raw seams to prevent fraying.
Next cut out your sleeves to fit your new arm holes and pin them in place on your sweater starting at the center and working your way out to the sides. Sew those seams and finish off as before.
Pin and sew down the side seams from arm hole to bottom. Again finish off side seams as before.
Lastly finish off your front hem and if you shortened your sleeves like I did, hem those as well.
