You Will Need (7 things)
- Mid-heavy weight Fabric
- Iron on Interfacing
- Matching Thread
- Sewing Machine
- Iron
- Ruler
- Tailor's Chalk
Steps (7 steps, 30 minutes)
-
1
Work out your measurements: decide how wide you'd like your finished strap to be and times it by 4.
Mark the strap out using chalk and a ruler on mid-heavy weight fabric.
I marked out a strap that is 16cm wide (so the finished thing will be 4cm). -
2
Cut a piece of fusible interfacing to the same size as your strap(s). Press to the wrong side of your fabric.
-
3
Fold your fabric in half width-ways and press to mark the centre point.
Open the fabric back out. -
4
Fold each side of your strap in to meet the middle (interfaced side will be hidden on the inside). Press.
-
5
Fold the strap in half again and press - this should make the strap the width that you decided on at the start. Pin the long open edge, or if your fabric is too bulky, use clips as I have.
-
6
Topstitch the long edge of the strap closed close to the edge.
-
7
Topstitch the other long edge so both sides of your strap match.
You should now have a sturdy and strong strap that can be used with any bag!
