My very FIRST How-To ;-) I seen some really cute zipper purses on the web and they were running around 800 bucks! EeeeK! So I blossomed my own idea into reality for around 35 bucks.. HA! Hope you find it helpful and success in all you do!
My very FIRST How-To ;-) I seen some really cute zipper purses on the web and they were running around 800 bucks! EeeeK! So I blossomed my own idea into reality for around 35 bucks.. HA! Hope you find it helpful and success in all you do!
I started with a cute bag I got at the market for 10 bucks. I chose it because it had all the layers I could imagine the zippers running along ;-)
KILL the bag.. lol I began by taking out the main seams that held the bottom and the lining together. I gathered up 7 zippers and a cool concho belt I got at the market for an unbelievable tiny price that had dangling leather strings.
I laid out my zippers to get my idea into focus. You will need a seam ripper and some scissors.
I ripped down the middle and started on the layers one by one on each side, opening them up and inserting one half side of a zipper then sewing it back closed.
Whew, first side is done ;-). Now to do the same on the next side. Next I did the single seam on the back of the purse with a "whole" zipper, just like the one I put on the front mid seam running up and down.
Got the front and back done, now to dress up the handle ;-)
Its a nice small easy rectangle and I wanted a full zipper in it.
Time to start sewing it back together. I started with the lining but left it open at the bottom about 10 inches so I could turn the bag inside out and back again when I was done getting to the outer shell to sew it closed from the inside. It will need to be finished when the outside is done.
The handle is looking all snazzy with it's new zipper ;-).
All sewed up! The bag originally came with some bulky cords running up and down the sides through metal eyes like shoelaces so I braided some small soft leather string and used it instead. I also added some of the string as little ties to each zipper head for style. I took apart my cute leather concho belt and decided where I wanted to add some charm. I didn't want to put big holes in the fabric to sew the thick leather conchos on so I actually just glued them on with some awesome glue that is comparable to super glue on steroids that works super great on EVERYTHING.
And here's the back all done ;D.
