This is a house-warming present for my good friend who really loves strawberry-like stuff. As she moved in a flat i thought i should give her something useful but special. I bought some red cotton fabric with white dots and some green cotton fabric, digged up my rest of thinsulate and head over to the sewing machine! The potholders have a double layer thinsulate inside and are quilted, in one corner is a green layer on top which looks like the green "crown" (is it the right word actually?) of a strawberry, the loop is green too. I suggest to use thinsulate and cotton fabrics as they can´t melt near heat like synthetics.

Cut four squares with 19cm edge length out of red fabric and thinsulate (seam allowance already incuded). Cut two rectangles that are 4x10cm long/wide for the loops (seam allowance included). Draw the pattern for the "crown" as you like and cut four pieces, don´t forget seam allowance.
pin a square of red fabric to a thinsulate square and sew lines across so a small squared pattern is developed. repeat with the other three squares.
take two of the crown pieces, pin them right sides facing and sew. I pinned the original pattern on and sewed around, but you can probably draw it on the fabric. i suggest to make a horizontal stitch at the corners so you can turn it easily. Also, use a narrow stitch length. Cut the seam allowances and clip the corners. repeat with the other two pieces.
turn the green pieces and iron well. Pin them on top of two squares and topstitch.
Take the rectangles, mark the middle (of shorter sides), fold the edges to the middle and iron. Flip over again and topstitch from right side. Pin with raw edges to the corner where the green crown is, the loop should point inwards.
take one quilted square with crown and one without and pin right sides facing. sew all around the corners but leave a small gap at one edge for turning. Repeat for the other pot holder.
cut the seam allowances and corners and turn. take in the seam allowances at the gap, iron all edges well and topstitch around from right side. I left out the crown and just topstitched on the red fabric. iron again...
