Thread your needle with 200cm of nymo. Add a stop bead by picking up a gold rocaille with your needle and moving it to about 20cm from the end of the thread. Loop your thread round and through again and pull tight.
Thread 6 more gold rocailles
Then skip 2 and pass the needle through the middle 2 rocailles in the same direction as before. Thread on 1 black rocaille.
Pass the needle over the black rocaille and through 3 gold rocailles towards the stop bead. Thread on a 4mm glass bead and pass needle through 2 gold rocailles to make the next row.
Thread on 4 more gold rocailles. Pass the needle through the first 2 again in the same direction and then pick up 1 black rocaille. Repeat step 4 to complete the sequence.Repeat step 5 until all of the moon beads are used up.
Thread a new needle and starting at the beginning of the necklace, put your needle through the first stop bead you added and loop twice as in step 1. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to begin the other side of the necklace. Then repeat step 4 but this time instead of threading a new 4mm glass bead, pass the needle through the existing 4mm glass bead and continue through 2 rocailles to make the next row. As before repeat step 5 using the existing 4mm glass beads. Continue to the end of the necklace.
Using the tail ends, sew 1 side of the toggle clasp to 1 end of the necklace. Do this by weaving through the attaching loop of your clasp and back down through several beads. Weave back up through a few beads and weave through the attaching loop again. Repeat until the clasp seems secure. Then weave the thread down through a few beads. Knot round a thread on the necklace (between 2 rocailles). Thread through several more and cut off any excess. Repeat on the other end of the necklace with the other half of the clasp.
ADDING NEW THREAD: You may need to add new thread at some point. Here’s how: When you have approximately 7cm of thread left cut off the thread close to the eye of the needle. Thread the needle with 2 metres of new thread. Using your 7cm of old thread, tie a very loose knot leaving the loop open. Place the tail end of your new thread inside the loose loop of the old one. Use a separate needle inside the loose loop to slide the knot tightly up against the last of the inside colour rocailles. You now have a total of 4 threads approximately 7cm long in 2 pairs. Knot these 2 pairs together tightly. The ends can then be threaded back through a few beads before trimming any excess.
This is how your necklace should look.
