Squig (Warhammer Fantasy Orcs & Goblins Creature)

A cute, scary monster

About

Sorry about no pictures, I made this Squig then decided to make a tutorial for it.

Inspired by Squigs from Warhammer Fantasy after I asked my fiancé if I could make him one. He said yes! We were aiming for a cute, scary monster. The Squig now lives with him.

You Will Need (7 things)

  • 1 black Permanent Marker
  • 2 googly/button/whatever type you like of Eyes
  • Scissors Be Safe!
  • Needle, thread Sewing Equipment
  • 1 off-white Felt
  • Stuffing
  • 1 red Felt square

Steps (6 steps, 60 minutes)

  1. 1

Draw a circle onto the red felt and cut it out. I used a small plate to get a nice circle.

  2. 2

Make a loose running stitch around the outside of the circle so that when you pull it tight, the circle closes.
Don't pull it fully tight or tie off the thread yet.

  3. 3

Tighten and stuff the squig. When the squig is a full as you want pull the thread tight and stitch across to make sure it holds.
I shaped the squig at this stage so that it had raised eyes.
I found that sewing up the squig and keeping the stuffing in it was the trickiest part. I used small polystyrene balls, then changed my mind and took some out then added different stuffing.

  4. 4

Cut out pointy teeth from the off-white felt. Squigs don't brush their teeth, so they are a bit dirty and may have some missing.
Align the teeth and the eyes where you want them, then stitch/glue them in place.

  5. 5

Now it's time to make the squig's feet so it can run and jump.
Cut out two (2) rectangles of red felt the same size. Each rectangle will be a foot.
Fold one rectangle in half and stitch along two of the edges. I tried stitching them inside-out them turning them, but they didn't look any different from stitching them on the outside.
Stuff the foot and sew it onto the squig's body.
Do the same for the other foot.

  6. 6

Lastly, take the permanent marker and draw some nostrils on the squig, them some eyebrows.
If you want, you can add some toenails to the feet, using the same felt as the teeth.
