Instructions

  1. Small bb0904insfig1lowres

Cut 3 x 100cm lengths of thread and 3 x 200cm lengths of thread. Knot all 6 lengths together about 20cm in from the ends. Attach a needle to 1 of the 100cm lengths and pick up rocailles until you have 60cm long string of beads. Make the last rocaille into a stop bead by looping your thread round and through again to secure.

  2. Small bb0904insfig2lowres

Attach the needle to the next 100cm strand. Pick up about 10 rocailles. Make a join by passing your needle through rocaille number 11 on the first strand. Continue all the way along in this way by picking up anything between 10 and 20 rocailles and then passing through 1 on your fist strand. When you reach the end pass your needle through the stop bead on the first strand and loop round and through as you did before. Repeat this step with your third 100cm strand.

  3. Small bb0904insfig3lowres

Attach your needle to 1 of the 200cm lengths. Weave through several beads on one of the rocaille strands. Pick up 1 of your pink or lime beads followed by a rocaille. Pass your thread back through your pink or lime bead. Weave your thread through the rocaille strand to where you want to add your next bead and repeat the process. Do this all the way along the strand until you reach the end. As before, pass through and round the stop bead. Repeat this process with the other 2 strands. It is up to you how whether you create a sparse or full look.

  4. Small bb0904insfig4

When you have finished your strands, knot all 6 strands together as close to the stop bead as possible. Repeat several times so that you have quite a bulky knot. Cover the knot with a calotte. Do this by placing the knot in the centre of the calotte cup and closing the calotte. Trim off the excess threads. Repeat at the other end.

  5. Small bb0904insfig5lowres

Attach your clasp to one of the calottes by hanging one joining loop onto the calotte hook and squeezing the calotte hook shut. Repeat at the other end.

Your finished necklace should look something like this.
