Description

I have a bunch of wooden spools I inherited, and I never knew what to do with them. I knew I didn't want to use them in a project that would destroy them beyond repair. So when I saw a display like this in an online shop, I knew I had to make one too!

Instructions

  1. Small s1

Get Your Supplies- Spool Craft Wire (or any thick wire you have) Stuffing (I used batting I cut into pieces, but you could use cotton balls, bits of felt or polyester stuffing) Pliers (that can cut wire or also a pair of wire cutters) Lip Gloss (anything round to wrap wire around)

  2. Small s2

Put wire into spool all the way, then bend it at about 1 inch above the spool. *Tip* Make a few at different length to create a cool display!

  3. Small s3

Starting at the bend, wrap wire around something round. I used lip gloss, which made about 1/2 inch circle.

  4. Small s4

Trim off the wire where it makes it's second full circle, the bend the end back up making the end touch the wire. Trim a tiny bit off the straight end, holding your wire cutters at an angle so you get a really sharp end.

  5. Small s5

Stuff your spool with tiny bits of what ever stuffing you have. I used batting that I cut up into small pieces. *Tip* Don't stuff it tightly, or you wont be able to stick in your wire! Fill the hole up, but don't pack it tight.

  6. Small s6

Put a dab of glue on the top of the stuffing.

Now take your wire loops and gently poke them into the center of the spool and through the stuffing. They don't need to go all the way through, just in enough so they aren't going to fall out. *Tip* If you feel yours are secure in the spools, wait for the craft glue to dry then add on a small amount of hot glue into the hole, around the wire.
