I want to carve a pumpkin for Halloween but want a smaller size one so it's simpler and faster. It so happened that the pumpkin that my dad bought home for me is smaller than I had in mind (around the size of my palm). And I think to myself, how can I make this work without looking too plain? So I decided to add something extra. Now I can dress up as a Witch and carry the pumpkin spider as a pet. Happy Halloween! by angelichigo.

Draw a face on the pumpkin with dry erase marker. That way, if you mess up with the design you can still clean it off with wet sponge/towel.
Carve the top part carefully with a small knife.
Once you have your top part carved out, with a spoon or any utensil you can find, scoop out the seeds and meat.
You should have something like this.
Now carve out the face carefully.
Now with a wet sponge, clean the marks on the pumpkin. Carefully, scrape the skin off the pupils on the face.
You should have something like this. Note: I usually leave a matching mark on both the lid and the inner pumpkin so when I close the lid, I know which part is matching to fit them nicely.
Now for the hat, you'll need a piece of black foam or cardboard. Use the lid and the bottom of a CD container to trace two circles. Cut them out.
You will have a small and big circle.
Because the small circle is already big enough to act as the hat brim, I cut the big circle in half and fold into a cone shape.
Staple the edges or use a glue gun to secure them.
Cut a fitted hole in the center of the hat brim so that it will not fall out when it is on the pumpkin. Glue the cone to the brim.
Use a black coloured sharpie and touch up the staples and glue marks that you might have.
Use 4 pipe cleaners for the legs. Bend each one in half. Then bend the ends little bit to form the feet. The feet should be perpendicular to the legs. Arrange them and glue them in the center to secure.
Glue the pipe cleaners to the bottom of the pumpkin.
Put a battery powered flickering LED light inside the pumpkin. Note: you can also substitute with candle but it's safer this way. Light can be bought from dollar store.
Put the hat on with the hole of the brim into the stem.
Ta la! Now you have a pet pumpkin spider!
