This is a very typical recipe during Holy Week in Spain. These exactly are made following a recipe from my grandma, but there are a lot of variants depend on the area. Hope I can explain well in English and you like it. It can be eaten as a dessert or a breakfast, enjoy them.
This is a very typical recipe during Holy Week in Spain. These exactly are made following a recipe from my grandma, but there are a lot of variants depend on the area. Hope I can explain well in English and you like it. It can be eaten as a dessert or a breakfast, enjoy them.
At the beggining you need bread, it can be from the day before or daily. You have to cut in thick slices, cut as much as you want to make.
Then you're going to need 3 plates. Put on the first: milk at room temperature. On the second plate: a beaten egg, if you are going to do many torrijas you'll maybe need 2 eggs. And on the thrid: put in some white sugar and cinnamon (If you like a lot the taste of the cinnamon, you can put one stick on the milk plate, but if you just want a touch of taste, put some with the sugar an mix it).
Now, the recipe itself: Put on a frying pan, the sunflower oil or the olive oil, at least one inch of it and heat. Take your slice of bread and dive it into the milk. Leave it there until the bread was soaked in milk.
Now, take your slice and coat in egg and put in the frying pan to fry it. Be careful: not break your slice of bread during the process.
Remove your bread when it is brown on the outside. And place it in the third plat, coat it in the sugar and the cinnamon.
Now serve on a plate an you are finished, repeat the process and make as many as you want. Yuo can it warm or cold, i prefer cold, but there are yummy in any way!
