I tried it, but I cut all the strips really uneavenly so it turned out kinda messy. luckily I drink like five soda cans a day so this shouldn't be a problem to redo :3
I love this project! I've actually made LOTS of these...even sold some on my etsy site. I have bags and bags of cans in my craft (aka:JUNK) room. I've used them as mini snack bowls...put several around on tables at a party. M & M's or peanuts are good in these...too small for chips, pretzels, etc. How about using one as a dip container...next to the bowl of chips?
After I tucked all of the ends under the next strip, I then took a pair of round nosed pliers and curled the ends of the strips. Adds a little design flair, and no flapping strips underneath. I'll have to go to see if I can find my pics so I can post my version.
I wonder if you could put tea lights in em and make em like a candle holder as well?? Not in the same one with ash in obv... but they look a good size to put tea lights in...
I am totally making these for my back porch! I have a glass ashtray out there now, which keeps filling up with rain water/snow and then freezing. I am afraid one of these days it might just explode.
Thank you for saving my porch from shattered glass and keeping my ashtray safe from sudden death.
thanks for all the awesome comments! and honestly the edges arent sharp....i made a ton of these for a party and never cut myself once. i'd love to see more others have made!
Great Idea!
But i would think you would want to wear gloves when cutting and bending the can? And maybe it would be a good idea to add extra snips and fold all sharp edges inward,so the finished project has no sharp edging?
I may give this a try..
Thanks for the idea!
hi, Brill project, im making it now. btw please change he confusing step, or put better pictures in maybe? im stuck on it and ive been trying to do it for 10mins now :'( HELP!!!!!!!!!
LOL! This is @%!#&%* awesome!!!! It remindes me of how my boyfriend uses soda cans for ashtrays, lol! But it's NEVER as as nice as this, or nice at all for that matter! I spy a cream soda can that needs to be repurposed!

Reminds me of the can craft art of the 70's

I love this, it's really amazing
It would also make an adorable picture frame!

Jewelry tin seems like a much better idea. But that's still really cool. However that one step seems a little confusing lol!
cool project, maybe I'll use the tray for something else though!
