There are patterns for two customised sizes and they are lightweight enough to pop into a travel case to slip into on holidays. Cutting out Refer to the templates on the following page. Size Small (UK 3–4, Eur 37–38) is shown with a solid line, size Medium (UK 5–6, Eur 38–39) is shown with a broken line. • From pink patterned fabric, cut two pairs of uppers and one pair of soles. • From wadding (batting), cut one pair of uppers and one pair of soles. • From calico, cut one pairs of soles. • From iron-on ultra-heavy interfacing and pelmet interfacing, cut one pair of insoles.

Instructions

  1. Pin and tack (baste) each wadding upper between a pair of fabric uppers with the right sides facing out.

Open out one folded edge of bias binding and pin to the toe and inner edges with right sides facing and matching the raw edges. Cut the toe binding level with the side edges and cut across the inner edge bindings level with tips of the inner edges. Stitch along the foldlines. Follow the Finishing Binding technique on page 30 to slipstitch the binding along the seam on the underside of the uppers. Trim the ends of the bindings level with the side edges.

  3. Small 2014 04 11 110821 screen 20shot 202014 04 11 20at 2012.07.53

Press each iron-on ultra-heavy interfacing insole to a pelmet interfacing insole to fuse the layers together. Tack the wadding soles to the wrong side of the patterned fabric soles. Place the insoles centrally on the wrong side of the calico soles, place the wadded fabric soles right side up on top. Pin and tack the layers together taking a 6 mm (. in) seam allowance, to enclose the insoles.

  4. With right sides face up, pin and tack the side edges of the uppers to the soles between the dots. Bind the raw edges.
