a simple, cheap dress from a skirt! easy to do too, seeing as you don't need a pattern or anything. Perfect for a christmas party, or any other occasion at that. I made this skirt for diplay purposes for my school's christmas fair!

ok, first thing you need to do is find a skirt. I bought this one second hand for £2. it's a long skirt made of blue and black patterned tulle, the label says that the brand is Roman Originals. or rather, the label said that as the first thing I didn was cut out the labels, they were really annoying me! getting in the way and all that. the skirt should be long egnougth to comfortably cover you up.
This step is easier with a dressmaking dummy, but you or a friend will do. You need to put on the skirt and pull it up to your bust, and position it so the fastenings are at the back. My skirt had a zip, which worked well. then pin it down the side so that it forms a dress shape with exess fabric at the sides. you only really need to make it tight where the zip goes down to, unless you want to make a really tight dress.
chalk down the sides where you want the seams to go, and then sew down those lines! whoo hoo! yeh! (got a bit hyper!)
trim the exess fabric, you should end up with a nice little tube dress, you could stop here, if you wanted to.
now add a classy little ribbon! make loops at either side of the dress, and tie the ribbon at the back. I used a thick black ribbon from a dress I've grown out of.
aaaaaand your'e done! you could add straps if you want, but I made this for displaying jewelry with, so I didn't do straps. oh yeh, and just because I made it for disply, dosen't mean I'm not going to wear it myself! tee hee hee ;3 lol!
