Sitting On Eggshells Chair
Forget walking on eggshells- let’s sit on them!

About
Give that worn old chair a bit of a lift—literally, by balancing it on four eggs! This quirky IKEA hack is
surprisingly easy to do, and even has the added benefit of extending the life of a chair that might be getting a little small for your kids. Of course, that was furthest from my mind when I made it. I just thought it was fun!

You Will Need (9 things)
- 4 Styrofoam Egg (25?16", 60 mm)
- 4 stainless steel Screw(s) (4" x 5/32", 100 mm x 4 mm)
- Screwdriver
- Poster Paint (white, yellow, and red)
- Paintbrush
- PVA Glue
- Pencil
- Drill
- Kid’s Chair
Steps (6 steps, 120 minutes)
-
1
Turn the chair upside down over a table and use a 3/32" (2.5 mm) drill bit to drill a pilot hole in the bottom of each chair leg. Make sure the hole is centered and vertical.
-
2
Create a guide hole in the egg by winding the screw, by hand, halfway into the top of
the egg. -
3
Remove the screw and then wind it completely through from the bottom of the egg. Make sure that the hole is centered and vertical.
-
4
Repeat steps 2 and 3 for three more eggs. Then use the screwdriver to line up the screws protruding from the eggs with the holes in the chair legs.
-
5
Mix a tiny bit of yellow and a drop of red paint into white paint to create an eggshell color. Mix in equal parts paint and PVA glue to help the paint stick.
-
6
Paint each egg. Apply two to three coats of paint and let dry after each coat. Then use a pencil and lightly draw cracks onto the egg to complete the effect.
