Simple String Art
Remember these?!

About
String art had been on my brain for a while and I used to make similar art all the time in grade school. I once had this gigantic rainbow colored diamond made out of dowels and yarn that I absolutely loved. It was time to give this craft another go. I had been trying to find the perfect thing to hang above my bed.
I bought three skinny wooden dowels from the craft store for 93¢. Then I dug out a few balls of leftover yarn in neutral colors (Believe me, you cannot compete with the bright yellow walls in my bedroom!) Below is a step by step tutorial. Please excuse the blurry/dark photos. I was night-crafting!

You Will Need (3 things)
- Yarn
- 2 Wooden Dowels
- Scissors
Steps (9 steps, 120 minutes)
-
1
Mark center of dowel and the center of each half.
-
2
Cut dowel in half.
-
3
Line up the two halves perpendicular using your marks.
-
4
Choose your string/yarn colors.
-
5
Wind some string/yarn around the center where your two dowel halves meet. Use enough to make it feel secure enough to handle. Finish with a knot.
-
6
Wrap yarn over and around each dowel. Repeat until you want to either change colors or finish your piece.
-
7
When changing colors, simply use a knot to attach your next yarn color. Just position the knot so it sits on the back of your piece.

I kept mine simple, neutral, and small but feel free to make these as large or as crazy as you want.

Hang and enjoy!
